Hot of the press is my design for an Industrial style family garden in Wanstead which I've been working on.
My clients are a family of four who are looking to create a garden which combines practical dining, relaxation and storage solutions with lush and colourful planting which encourages wildlife and pollinators into the garden.
Continuing the industrial style of kitchen extension, the existing concrete patio will be extended on the left hand side to create a dining area, which captures the morning sun. An L-shaped concrete sofa with integral planter will sit with an industrial style metal table on striking hexagonal encaustic tiles to create a secluded family dining area with space for additional seating.
A step down from the patio will lead you along a concrete stepping stone path set into aromatic ground cover planting (Camomile, Thyme, Isotoma) to a relaxation concrete patio at back, perfect for drinks in the evening sun.
A flower bed runs the length of the garden down the right hand side containing an Acer dissectum 'Garnet' and multi stem Amelanchier to provide visual interest from the kitchen and dining area. The journey through the garden is further softened by a lawn bordered with a native rich wildflower turf to give a splash of Summer colour and attract wildlife.
A practical bike box with wildlife friendly sedum roof sits behind the dining patio and is painted a neutral colour to match the fencing throughout. A rusted rebar trellis for esplanier apple trees and corten steel edging aligns with the industrial styling and is repeated with copper wall lights at the back.
A hot bin composter and water butt planter add to the environmental credentials of the design and are sited near the house for ease of access.
I look forward to the next stage of implementing this design.
