London Design Biennale 2021 - building back better

I visited the London Design Biennale at Somerset House yesterday. The theme this year, unsuprisingly, was 'Design in an age of crisis' as global crises are often the catalyst to revolutionary changes in how we live our lives.

The installations really provoked thought on this from an urban forest surrounding mirrored plinths explaining the seven Global Goals in the central courtyard, to the 'Reinventing Texture' paper mache installation using found objects from London and Toyko and sustainable Washi paper to suggest future structural use in a post Covid world.

Other installations include an exhibition highlighting the repurposing of avocado seeds into sustainable materials and a sound installation focusing on the growing polarisation of nationalistic viewpoints via sound switches relating to popular hashtags.

The exhibition is on until 27th June. It's well worth a visit.
