As we transition into Autumn, I really enjoy enhancing the color in garden beds by selecting specific plants. Keeping the seed heads on some of these plants throughout Winter not only offers essential food and nesting spots for insects but also adds visual interest during the colder months.
Hylotelephium (previously know as Sedum)

Hylotelephium Herbstfreude in my E11 Naturalistic Planting design The broad, flat flowerheads of Hylotelephium offer a sanctuary for pollinating insects and bring autumn hues, beginning with green and transitioning from a dusky pink to a more vibrant pink before eventually fading to brown.
Anemone x hybrida 'September Charm'

Anemone x hybrida 'September Charm' in my N5 Secluded Family Garden Anemones flourish in moist yet well-drained areas with partial shade, blooming on upright stems from June to October.
Miscanthus sinensis

Miscanthus sinensis 'Ferner Osten' in my N12 Dog Friendly garden A beautiful arching ornamental grass which produces plume like flowers in Summer, emerging pink and fading to silver over the season.
Echinachea purpurea

This North American prairie plant, with its Autumn seedheads that attract bees and butterflies, is essential for the late season border.
Persicaria affinis

Persicaria affinis 'Superba' in my E11 Naturalistic Planting design This semi-evergreen ground cover plant will soften the edges of hard landscaping and add a splash of color late in the season.
Welcome and enhance the new season to add color and attract wildlife to your outdoor area this autumn.
