Garden Transformations 2020

As we head towards the end of this very strange year, it feels like a good time to review some of the projects that Sarah Kay Garden Design have completed in 2020. What better way to show the transformation of these projects but through Before and After photos.

1. E14 Contemporary Balcony - Completed July 2020

This striking new build apartment with an L shaped wraparound balcony needed a bold but minimal planting scheme, with Corten steel finish planters to contrast with the blue tiles and strong architectural planting that could handle the exposed conditions.

Before - South facing balcony

After - Mediterranean planting, hammock and sculpture

Before - East facing balcony

After - Pom pom topiary, corten steel finish planters

2. N12 Dog Friendly Garden - Completed Sep 2020

This overgrown North Finchley garden was transformed to a open sunny space with generous entertainment and relaxation spaces for the family (including their dog Gatsby) to enjoy.

Before - Poorly sited trees created a shady and impractical space

After - a sandstone perimeter path and bespoke raised bed/bench around existing Apple tree

Before - a broken greenhouse and arches dominated

After - A painted shed provides useful storage and Amelanchier gives height to this side of the garden

Before - A concrete patio was cluttered with old storage

After - A large balau deck for dining

3. E5 Urban Curves

My plant loving client wanted a garden which combined large flower beds with an area for seating and practical storage. My curved design sought to create a naturalistic garden which gives emphasis to the establishing Mediterranean planting.

Before - concrete paving and mismatched planting dominates

After - Circular sandstone patio and self binding gravel path leads you through the planting

Before - the shady side return was used for storage

After - trough planters with shade tolerant planting give pleasing views from the side windows

Before - Damaged boundary and overgrown Cherry tree

After - new fencing and pruned Cherry tree creates privacy whilst allowing light in

I look forward to sharing my projects in 2021. With a front garden and courtyard build due to start in January and a Victorian front garden in the pipeline, it promises to be an exciting year.
